ABOU SEMBEL

Abu Simbel is an important tourist place for all visitors to Egypt. Because of this, the Egyptian State gave it more interest. It is now seeing a significant progress and prosperous in all fields, whether a touristic or architectural or agricultural.

Name

The Pharaohs called Abu Simbel by the name of ‘Abasht’ as it is written on its temple walls and from this the words Abu Simbel came, as used by the people of Nubia.

Both temples of Abu Simbel, which were built by Ramses II (from Family 19 to new, 1290 to 1224 BC), are considered to be the most beautiful temples in Nubia. These two temples have been rescued, with other temples of Nubia, by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) before they sank under the waters of Lake Nasser behind the High Dam.

The city of Abu Simbel prepares each year to celebrate the phenomenon of the sun passing over the face of Ramses II in the Holy of Holies Temple of Ramses II, in the city where this rare phenomenon happens twice a year, on 22nd February and 22nd October. This occurred on the occasion of the birth of Ramses II, the anniversary of his coronation, and when he sat as a king on the throne of Egypt.

Abu Simbel has an international airport, and the length of each runway is 1 km. It has three halls (the Arrivals Hall, the Departures Hall, and a VIP Hall) and a Control Tower

Abu Simbel River Port was constructed to facilitate the movement of passenger ships that move between Egypt and Sudan through the High Dam Lake. This river port also serves as a customs area for Abu Simbel, since it is near the Egyptian - Sudanese border.
