Ras El Bar

Ras El-Bar is a small city located on the Mediterranean coast. It is under the jurisdiction of Damietta governorate. Ras El-Bar marks the meeting point of the Nile River with the Mediterranean Sea, which is known as El-Lesan. Ras El-Bar dates back to 1823, when merchants came there to await the arrival of their ships. They used to stay at the beginning of the summer to enjoy its calm and beauty. In 1865, Ras El-Bar was considered a seaside destination. In 1902 the first simple map of this area was made, and it was decided to improve the seaside, provide street lighting, and run boats on the River Nile to transport seaside holidaymakers and also carry the post between Damietta and Ras El-Bar. Today, Ras El-Bar’s beaches are some of the most popular seaside areas in Egypt and Damietta governorate.
