MIT QUMMUS

Mit El-Qummus, now known as Riyadh, is an old village whose original name was Meniet El-Qummus.  It had been mentioned in many historical books, and then its name was modified.  It was also mentioned in the history of 1228 AH of the Islamic calendar by its current name. In 1948 the mayor of Mit El-Qummus sent a welcoming letter to King Saud, who was visiting Cairo at the time, inviting him to visit the village of Mit El-Qummus.  The mayor was seeking to change the name of his village, and King Saud accepted his invitation.  The then-king of Egypt, King Farouk, issued a royal decree to change the name of the village to Riyadh, after the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Mit El-Qummus has been mentioned in the book of Taj Al-Arous.
