BADARI

Badari is a city on the eastern side of the Nile. It is one of the most important districts, historically, in Asyut governorate since it dates back to the pre-dynastic period, more than 4,000 years ago. The discovery of agriculture, for the first time in Egypt’s history, was made in Badari. It is also considered to be one of the oldest cities in history due to the discovery of very ancient monuments in nearby El-Hamaih Village.

The present inhabitants of Badari are not the indigenous people, but are immigrants from Yemen. Marb Dam in Badari is known to have collapsed at some point in the past. In the modern era, Badari is famous for its cultivation of various fruit crops, especially pomegranates, which has earned this district an international reputation for its export of pomegranates to different Arab and foreign countries. Further archeological research, such as surveys and exploration, is needed in Badari to find more of its ancient monuments.
