SHABAS ELSHUHADA

Shabas El-Shuhada was one of the oldest cities in Egypt and known under the names of Kapasa, Romy Gabsyos and El-Ashouri Shabas.  After the Islamic conquest, it was known simply as Shabas. There has been more than one affix to the name of this village. It is now known as Shabas El-Shuhada because of the large number of martyrs who were killed there during the French Campaign in Egypt between 1798 and 1801. Ali Mubarak mentioned it in his book ‘Al-Khotat El-Tawfiqia’ where he wrote that it included two old mosques, two gardens, and more than one shrine. There is ample farmland, so its residents cultivate cotton and wheat. Shabas El-Shuhada is considered an independent village
