NEKLA ELENAB

Nekla El-Enab is famous for its planting of potatoes. Its land is elevated along the river and its farmers are considered to be highly skilled in agriculture. Nekla El-Enab has a reputation for the quality of its potato crops, which are grown and stored in a very safe way without resorting to pesticides.

Nekla El-Enab has a long history that dates back to the days of Roman rule in Egypt. The Romans established the village, and later the Greeks and Turks expanded it. Nekla El-Enab is named after a relative of a Greek, called ‘Nicola’ or ‘Nikolai,’ who owned vast vineyards there. Also, at that time, everyone in the village grew grape vines in their gardens or in front of their houses. Some historical sources claim that the village was known as ‘Arab Saft,’ during the time of the Islamic Conquest of Egypt.
