NAQADA

Naqada is famous for its Farka industry, which is from a handmade textile that is exported to Sudan and used in some old traditions in marriage and birthing ceremonies. There is in Sudan a Coptic community, a great part of which is descended from the inhabitants of Naqada.

The name of ‘Neqads’ returns back to the beginning of talking by Arabic language in this region during the 17th century, as the people was talking by the Coptic language. The present name of Naqada is distorted from the Coptic words ‘Ni Qaday,’ meaning ‘understanding and knowledge’
