BORG ELBROULLOS

Borg El-Burullas is a village that was known as Nakeyuls while under Roman rule. Its residents at that time were pagans, but became Christians following the victory of Caesar Augustus against the armies of Antonio and Cleopatra in 31 BC. Its name then changed from Nakeyuls to Barallus, until the Islamic conquest in 642 AD when it became known as Burullus. Salah El-Din Ayoubi constructed two huge castles in Burullus to protect the beaches against the Crusaders’ raids. One of these castles was known as El-Borg. The village was thereafter named Borg El-Burullus.
