Mallawi is known for its cultivation of exportable agro-crops such as onions, sugarcane, cotton, rice, sweet corn, citrus fruits and honey. There is a rice mill as well as factories for manufacturing plastic and metal, preparing meat products, farinaceous confections and pasta, cement bricks, and rubbish recycling.
