Baltim has a long history and has been known under a number of different names. It was mentioned by the writer Hotain in his dictionary, where he wrote, ‘Its name was Toun Atoun.’ Baltim was also mentioned in the book entitled ‘The Journey of Ibn Battuta’ as being known by the name of Maltin. In ancient times, Baltim was known as Tennes Lake, while in the book entitled ‘Al-Kawanen’ by Ibn Mamati, Baltim was mentioned as Baltim Al-Nastraweya. The grave of Sheikh Marzouk is located in Baltim.
