Kosseir is 590 kilometers from Cairo and used to be the place where the pharaohs found gold. Today it is a very important resort because of the large collection of offshore coral reefs. Phosphorus is also found there. Pilgrims on their way to the Hajj in Mecca used to cross the Red Sea at Kosseir.  It also has some ancient Pharaonic and Coptic monuments.
